Benefits

This page describes how businesses, households, consultants and service providers, and society in general benefit from the Energy Savings Scheme

For businesses who want to save energy

Reducing electricity has two benefits:

  1. lower electricity bills
  2. additional revenue from the sale of certificates.

Including your project in the Energy Savings Scheme may make investing in energy efficient equipment more feasible. It could improve your return on investment and make projects with marginal energy savings more viable.

For consultants and service providers

Use your expertise to help other businesses reduce electricity use – become an Accredited Certificate Provider. Becoming an Accredited Certificate Provider may open an additional income stream to your business. As well as energy efficient larger projects, a number of smaller projects can be combined to create energy savings certificates.

For householders

Saving electricity has several benefits for households:

  • lower power bills
  • reduced electricity use without cutting the benefits you get from equipment that uses electricity

So you'll still enjoy all the convenience of electricity, but at a lower cost.

For society

The Independent
Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) recently commissioned a study to find out the total benefit to society of the Energy Savings Scheme.

It was found that the Energy Savings Scheme provides a net benefit of $24 per megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity saved.

The study was conducted by Databuild UK. Read the study here.
