BrowseAloud is a feature on our website which allows you to hear our web pages being read to you. This includes files such as PDF documents and forms. BrowseAloud makes websites accessible to those who require online reading support. It works by reading web pages aloud in a human-sounding voice.
This service is designed to improve access to our website content for visitors who require online reading support. This includes those with learning difficulties such as dyslexia, mild visual impairments and those with English as a second language.
How BrowseAloud works?
1. Click on the 'Listen with BrowseAloud' link on the top of the ESS web pages.
2. The BrowseAloud floating toolbar will appear. You can position this toolbar anywhere on your screen or hide from view, as you prefer.
3. Hover to speak mode is the default setting on start up, the user simply hovers their mouse pointer over the text to hear it read aloud.
4. Or you can highlight text yourself to be read aloud. Simply turn off hover to speak mode by selecting the first button and then select the second play button when your text is highlighted.
